Love Is A Many Splendored Thing

Recently, a cousin (with whom I have more in common that I would ever have dreamed growing up) decided to ask his lady friend (not sure what the term is, but after 20 years or so, girlfriend just doesn’t seem right somehow) to marry him. Fortunately for both of them (and indirectly for me), she said yes. In some way, I think I’ve thought of her as family since I first met her five years ago, and now she will be.

Last year, I was encouraged by my wife to write a song for the two of them. The song, “Second Chance,” turned out to be one of the best I had ever written. Now that he has popped the question, I decided I should write another song for the two of them and in the process see if lightning might strike again.

Loving You

I wasn’t looking when I met you
Didn’t think I needed anyone
But then you came along
And you sure proved me wrong
Just like that, love had begun

Now the nights are so much better
Every day, life seems brand new
Just one reason I can think of
It’s all because of you

You turned my world upside down
Knocked my defenses to the ground
And by the time that you were through
I was loving you

You weren’t looking when you found me
You’d picked up the pieces and moved on
You let me touch your heart
That was just the start
Suddenly, the pain was gone

Now the days are so much brighter
All my cares drifted away
Only one reason for this change
It’s because you’re here to stay

You turned my world upside down
Knocked my defenses to the ground
And by the time that you were through
I was loving you

Loving you today, loving you tomorrow
Loving you as long as you’ll let me
I have become a prisoner of your love
And I hope you never set me free

You turned my world upside down
Knocked my defenses to the ground
And by the time that you were through
I was loving you

And by the time that we are through
I’ll still be loving you
Always loving you
