It’s That Time of Year

December 23, 2014 § Leave a comment

My wife spent a little time together the other evening singing a few songs. Afterward, I said I guess I need to write a Christmas Song. She agreed. So I have.

I’m not a big fan of many of the traditional religious Christmas carols. To me, a lot of them (not all, though) sound a bit somber and somewhat overwrought, completely lacking in the joyful aspect of the season. Part of that feeling is no doubt due to the fact that I did not grow up in an overtly religious family.

Regardless, Christmas has always been to me a time of friends and family, a time to put differences aside and share one another’s company. In some way, I suppose, an opportunity to make a new start. My song was written in that spirit. I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas, regardless of how you choose to celebrate or not celebrate the occasion.

This Merry Christmas Eve

The presents are wrapped, all the stockings are hung
The kids are asleep, and the carols are sung
We stand ‘neath the mistletoe, just you and me
For a last kiss this Merry Christmas eve

The lights on the tree, all shining so bright
Reflecting the promise of a magical night
Watching them glow, it’s not hard to believe
In love and hope this Merry Christmas eve

There’s a chill in the air
And a warmth in our hearts
That comes around this time of year
The joy of the season
The moments we share
When family and friends gather near

The hour is late, the lights are turned low
A last cup of cheer, one final Christmas bow
The sleigh has been packed, Santa’s ready to leave
To make his rounds this Merry Christmas eve

(instrumental)

There’s a chill in the air
And a warmth in our hearts
That comes around this time of year
The joy of the season
The moments we share
When family and friends gather near

The hour is late, the lights are turned low
A last cup of cheer, one final Christmas bow
The sleigh has been packed, Santa’s ready to leave
To make his rounds this Merry Christmas eve

To one and all, a Merry Christmas eve
